How and why does Laundry Detergent irritate Sensitive Skin?

All laundry detergents, even the brands designed for sensitive skin, leave some form of residue after rinsing.
Exposure to chemical residues can cause skin irritations, allergic reactions, rash or redness and even eczema.
Laundry detergent chemical residue is the most overlooked cause of sensitive skin reactions, contact dermatitis, MCS, and eczema irritation.
Common laundry chemicals that can leave residues include perfumes, UV brighteners, dyes, carbonates, salts, fillers, enzymes, and even lubricants for your washing machine.

Chemical residues coat and stiffen fibers and fabrics making your clothes itchy and scratchy so that you must use fabric softener, another major irritation to sensitive skin.
You are exposed to these irritating chemicals 24/7, yet they are frequently over-looked because we are so accustomed to them. The residue left behind in clothes after just 8 washings can add as much as 2% to the weight of the fabric. When the clothes are worn, moisture activates the detergent residue and begins to irritate the sensitive skin. That’s why most skin irritations will begin near regions of the body containing the most sweat glands.
Our laundry detergent leaves absolutely no residues to cause skin irritations
Laundry product marketers seek to distinguish their products by what they leave behind. The problem is, detergents are free to claim they are “Free” or “Free and Clear” without any oversight. We try a few “Free”, “Clear” or “Natural” products, find that they provide no relief, and resolve to live with the irritation.
Fortunately Puraderm Laundry leaves no residue and can often make a difference in the lives of people with chemical sensitivity, eczema, or any other type of sensitive skin condition.

I just wanted to commend your product. For the first time in her life, my 15-month old no longer has itchy rashes on her skin! She's really beautiful, and for the first time we can see her face because the rash from contact dermatitis (from the crib sheets) is gone! And the eczema on the rest of her body is slowly going away. Thanks again!

Puraderm Laundry is a 100% residue free product. Residue free is the most important requirement of a detergent for sensitive skin conditions.
Puraderm Laundry contains no brighteners (Brightening Agent). A brightener is a UV activated dye, and a common irritant to sensitive skin.
Puraderm Laundry is the only detergent designed to be used without fabric softener.

Dear Puraderm,
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your products and your company. My 5 year old son has eczema and contact allergies. Your products have saved him from the frequent burning red rashes that he gets from regular laundry soap. Before I found you, I tried the "free" and "natural" brands out there, but they didn't solve the problem like your laundry soap does. I would also like to mention that your laundry soap works great in my front load machine and rinses out better than those "HE" detergents!
Although my son is the only family member with eczema, I now use your products for the whole family, especially the laundry soap - it works beautifully!
Recently, I discovered that your sealing wax does wonders in preventing chafing and redness. My son had been getting horrible red rashes on his inner thighs from basketball and swimming this summer. It got so bad that I was about to take him out of summer camp to let his skin rest! Then I tried the sealing wax and it worked like a true miracle. I simply put it on in the morning and it lasts all day. He literally went from coming home with red welts one day to coming home with beautifully clear soft skin the next. Needless to say, we will be using it everyday from now on!
